Undescribed #6
A multi-dimensional group show by emerging local artists that presents new ways of approaching photography and film.
DECK presents the sixth edition of Undescribed, an annual platform for emerging artists to present new ways of approaching photography and the moving image. The exhibition challenges and rethinks current image-making practices. In each of the Undescribed exhibitors, they are filled with dreams, passion, and yearnings for the future despite its uncertainties. Time, as the witness, as well as the passage of journey, has revealed different trajectories for these young individuals since our first edition in 2016.
Undescribed aptly labels the ‘unknown’ stage of these emerging creators, a period of potential and experimentation, both for their individual practices as well as their explorations into the medium of photography. This edition features works by Amelia Yuliana (@e.lisx), Crystal Sim (@qximz), Ivan Ong (@thirdcylinder), Lin Shiau-yu (@shiauyuuuu), Yen Yun Ni Odelia (@odeliayen) and Michelle Tan (@hhcim).
Through a process of an Open Call and also by invitation, 6 artists were selected by Gwen Lee, director of DECK, and local visual artist Robert Zhao, who mentored and guided the artists in the production of the show.
Spanning across Gallery 1 and 2 of DECK, Zhao and the artists visualised the layout and installation of works. The coming together of ideas between mentor and new artists is a key component in the production of every edition of Undescribed.
The exhibition brings together varied embarkations of these recently graduated artists, allowing them a platform to present their works to the local arts community.
The exhibition runs from 20th Mar to 3rd Apr 2021 at DECK.
