About
“You see differently in the jungle. A long lens compresses space in a way it cannot in a room. Light affects organically, constantly evolving. The jungle overwhelms and inhabits the actors and crew. The pre-planned narrative is overthrow.
Old trees and monuments are much the same thing. They are actors in their own stage, and we marvel at their qualities of stillness, their poise and presence. The landscape need not come out to the audience. The audience is invited in.”

Event Details
In the Shadow of Trees is filmmaker Chen-Hsi Wong’s first solo show. After shooting her award-winning debut feature film Innocents (2012), she continued to explore the simplest forms of landscape and light, without decoration, construction, performance or narrative. The image documents that compose this series mark a continuing exploration of vegetative-form that was ignited by her cinema work.
