About
Curated by the Level 2 students from the BA(Hons) Fashion Media and Industries programme at LASALLE College of the Arts, the students have brought the opulence and demeanour of 1930s Shanghai, a thriving port that was a mix of cultures from all around the world into the modern day, through a fashion photography exhibition. This exhibition will come to life through carefully curated fashion images, films and installations, capturing the zeitgeist of a city whose eclectic styles fused the flair of both East and the West. The exhibition adapts Shanghai 1930s’ narratives using visual cues from the era, moulding them into a contemporary fashion language.
Event Details
Articulating diverse stories and socio-cultural interpretations through garments created by students of the BA(Hons) Fashion Design and Textiles programme, this exhibition depicts the story of how fashion and visual culture evolved in Shanghai in the 21st century. The obvious heirs of 30’s Shanghai glamour were Singapore and the Southeast Asian countries; this exhibition asks, what does this inheritance mean and how are we passing it on to our future generations? Is this inheritance relevant to fashion today?
Organised by LASALLE College of the Arts (BA(Hons) Fashion Media and Industries Programme)
