DECK, Singapore’s revolutionary container art space dedicated to contemporary photography, marks the completion of its inaugural Artist-in-Residence (A.i.R.) programme with the launch of a solo exhibition by resident artist Liana Yang on 16 October, 2015, 7.30pm. Titled The Two Of Them, the showcase presents experimental works and ideas fomented during her residency.
Over the period of two months, Liana occupied the Artist Studio at DECK, where she worked in a conducive environment to produce new works. One of her creations was presented during the annual Singapore Night Festival from 21 to 29 August, 2015. Titled With Someone Like You, the installation consisted of over 1,300 pages from romance novels which the artist meticulously redacted to remove selective strips of text. Displayed in a methodical rows and columns, they convey compulsive and obsessive tendencies in romantic relationships, and encourage visitors to literally read between the lines as they interact with the installation.
