The Evolution of Photographic Language

  • This event has passed.

‘The Evolution of Photographic Language’, consists of 6 individual sessions, and takes an emphasis upon the history of photography, and intends to bring the audience through the chronology of the photographic medium, from its early days of experiments and invention to its contemporary application, as well as its political, conceptual, scientific, artistic and cultural implications of our current age.

The series of lectures will reference works of John Berger, Susan Sontag, Scott Walden, Kendall Walton, Roger Scruton, Liz Wells, Walter Benjamin, Graham Harman, and other scholars who have contributed to the progress of discourses in art, and the continual evolution of the photographic language.

After individual lecture, there will be a half hour session of discussion with the audience, to stimulate reflective discourses and critical conversations concerning the spoken topics of each lesson. The Evolution of Photographic Language hopes to assist in the learning and apprehending of a greater understanding regarding the photographic medium through a historical paradigm, to raise awareness, initiate thinking, and inspire conversations, on the indispensable relationship between the photographic, contemporary societies and modern living, as well as to excite and generate larger interest in photography, in hope of achieving a consequential increase in appreciation of photographic practices, that of yesteryears, and of modern day, as well as those of the coming future.
