Step into the creative world of artist Chen Chuanduan as he shares the ideas, processes, and stories behind both his acclaimed works and exciting new projects. In conversation with Dr Wang Ruobing, Chen will reflect on Belly of The Giant Serpent: Prophecy, featured in the Singapore International Photography Festival 2024 Photobook Showcase, and offer insights into the new work he is currently developing during his residency at DECK.

Chen Chuanduan (born 1994) employs imagery and text as his mediums, embarking from the documentary of personal emotions and experiences. His work focuses on the connection between humanity and nature, as well as the silent appeals within modern life. Fascinated by natural science and mysticism, he has a particular affinity for conveying the ineffable through fiction.
Dr Wang Ruobing
Artist, educator, and independent curator | Facilitator
Dr. Wang Ruobing is an artist, educator, and independent curator whose practice explores environmental relationships through the lenses of ecology and knowledge production. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including the Singapore International Festival of the Arts (2025). As a curator, she has led projects such as Sama-Sama (2025) and Alternative Ecology: The Community (2024). Her research focuses on ecology, everyday practices, and transcultural discourse in contemporary Chinese and Southeast Asian art, with writings published in ISSUES, JCCA, Yishu, and Nanyang Art. Ruobing holds a DPhil from the University of Oxford and was formerly a curator at the National Gallery Singapore. She currently lectures at LASALLE College of the Arts | University of the Arts Singapore and co-founded the independent art space Comma Space.
