Open Call 2024: DECK Associate Creative Programme
DECK welcomes Singapore and internationally-based artists, curators, cultural producers, collectives and creative thinkers from around the world to participate in the Open Call.
About
#1: Application Guidelines
Interested Applicants are required to submit the following, as part of their application via Google Forms (Link Here), by 22nd May 2024 (Wed), 2359hrs:
- Personal Statement (max. 500 words) rationalising your interest in the programme and the goals of your project;
- A Robust Proposal elaborating your project, project outcomes, plans for public programming (if applicable), an indicative timeline, a simple budget proposal (to achieve your project outcomes), and any other relevant materials;
- Updated Curriculum Vitae(s).
The DECK Associate Creative Programme is open to applicants of all nationalities, age, ethnicities, genders, and stages of professional development. You may choose to apply as an Individual or as part of a collective. The programme is intended for curators, artists, programmers, cultural producers, collectives wishing to carry out an original photography-based project.
Proposals may take on formats such as: a) exhibition proposals; b) scholarship & publications; c) outreach programmes; d) photography-based research projects; e) series of public engagement that explores photography/visual culture; and further afield. Applicants may also choose to propose alternative formats of presentation or engagement, as they see fit, in the context of their proposal.
It is of paramount importance that Applicants take into consideration how their proposed projects might be communicated to a wider audience, be it through physical means, online, or an amalgamation of both. As DECK gears up to present the 9th Singapore International Photography Festival (SIPF), there might be an opportunity to present the project at SIPF this coming October.
#2: Programme Provisions
The DECK Associate Creative Programme will provide successful Associates with the following:
- A research stipend of SGD2,500;
- Access to DECK’s resources;
- Capacity building and support from DECK’s network of creative professionals;
- Where feasible, resources towards the realisation of research/programming outcomes.
#3: Deliverables
The programme will primarily run in two phases, as detailed below:
- Phase #1: Research
Based on the selected project, the Associate will have around three months to develop their research & proposal. At the end of the research period, the Associate will submit a refined proposal to DECK to validate the feasibility of the project.
- Phase #2: Presentation
Upon approval from DECK, the project will move into the Presentation phase, where Associates will manage & deliver the presentation of their project outcomes. DECK will support, wherever feasible, resources towards the realisation of research/programming outcomes.
#4: Proposal Selection Process
All submitted proposals will be reviewed by the DECK team and shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview with an evaluation panel to present their proposal. Applicants will be evaluated on the merits of their submitted proposal, and if shortlisted, in conjunction with their proposal presentations, against the following considerations:
- Relevance to programme’s brief and contemporary photography and/or visual discourse;
- Originality and innovative ideas that address potential gaps with current visual culture/scholarship/programming landscape;
- Cohesiveness and feasibility of proposal.
